At Kennedy Baptist College, we are always looking to give our students opportunities for growth. On campus, this can include the election of students to leadership positions, the chance to enrol in specialist sport programs, or by offering increasingly high standards of education. Off campus, educational excellence starts with our frequent excursions around Perth and can go as far as a New Zealand Ski Tour or a European Study Tour.
In 2023, we were thrilled to resume many of our Trips and Tours, including two visits by students to the Kennedy Centre in Cambodia and a tour of the north of our state with the Newman Indigenous Tour. Organised and supervised by our experienced staff, the opportunities for travel that Kennedy offers place emphasis on cultural immersion and learning about the history and geography of an area.
In a recent trip to Sydney and Canberra, peer-building activities such as go-karting and laser tag ran alongside the important exploration of Australia’s democratic history and institutions with visits to those very places that decisions are made. In our Cambodia Mission Trip, students travelled out of their comfort zone as they sat down and worked alongside disadvantaged children in the Kennedy Centre and discover the astounding history of Siem Reap and the temples of Angkor. It is a sign of a growth of our students while at Kennedy that, under a guided tour operated by the College, several of our Year 12 students opted to travel back to Cambodia instead of taking part in Leavers celebrations.
Another advantage of our tours is that it allows students to find their place within a globalised world where careers and education do not just lie within Australia’s borders. With multiple graduates taking up university scholarships overseas, we have seen the direct benefits of travel to preparing our students for the future. For graduates who continue to work and learn within Australia, our Trips and Tours grant them an advantage by offering a global outlook on their lives.
We are delighted to have five overseas tours running in 2024 and look forward to engaging our students in fresh and exciting ways, whether they be exploring the cities of the USA or the important cultural centres of our own country.
