We understand that moving from primary to secondary school is a big change. At Kennedy, we are committed to ensuring your child experiences a smooth and welcoming transition. The information on this page will help you navigate this journey.
Year 7 Transition Program
Kennedy’s Year 7 Transition Program begins many months before their first day at the College.
When your child is in Year 6, you will be invited to an Orientation Day in Term 4 of that year where they will get to meet their Year 11 Mentors. These mentors will support students to learn more about the College and give them strategies and skills to manage life at secondary school.
Parent Information Morning
This takes place on the same day of your child’s Orientation Day, where parents are invited to a morning tea followed by an information session to learn specific information about transition from our Principal and Head of Year 7, meet other Year 7 parents and to clarify information. This is the start of Kennedy’s Year 7 Transition Program.
In your child’s entry year, the following key events take place:
- Pre-start Day in January
- Commencement Ceremony on their first day of the school year
- Year 7 Families Afternoon Tea
Activities and events are held throughout the year to support students in building organisational and study skills, connecting with peers and enhancing resilience and mindfulness. Extracurricular activities are also a great opportunity for your child to make new friends and pursue personal excellence.RSVP your attendance here

The Year Prior to Entry
The Kennedy Extension and Enrichment Program (KEEP) provides an environment where academically able students can be challenged and extended to attain the highest levels of excellence, alongside peers who share similar aspirations, abilities and interests.
Students enrolled for Year 7 can apply for KEEP. Selection is based on testing conducted during the year preceding entry to Year 7. Families are invited for the testing which normally take place in May and will be notified via email if your child has been selected.
The Specialist Basketball Program at Kennedy Baptist College aims to develop the basketball skills of students to their fullest potential. Up to 120 students participate in regular training throughout the year. Students can represent the College in School Sport WA tournaments and the SAS and Junior SAS Interschool Competitions.
The Specialist Cricket Program, developed in partnership with Southern Cricket, offers Kennedy students the incredible opportunity to access specialist coaching and technology, typically only available to professional cricket players and coaches. Our students use state-of-the-art indoor facilities at Southern Cricket with Level 3 Coach Luke Wimbridge, and have access to turf nets and centre wickets curated by the WACA on Murdoch Oval.
Trial sessions for both the Specialist Cricket and Basketball Programs usually take place in May. Places in the programs are only available to students already enrolled.
The Basketball trials are a two-phase process:
- Open Session — The session is open to any student who wishes to be part of the program. This initial trial is held on-campus at the Kennedy Sports Centre.
- Invite Only — Parents will be notified via email if their child has been successful in reaching the second phase of the trial selection process.
The trial process for both programs have already started for the 2022 intake, the dates for 2023 intake will be announced in 2022.
For further information about our Specialist Programs, please contact the Registrar's Office on 08 9314 7722 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
