At Kennedy Baptist College, every student is part of a safe and caring Christian community that nurtures their confidence and character. Our Christian faith is at the heart of who we are, both in the values that we instil in our students and in the ways we teach them to learn. Although not all students and families who attend the College are themselves Christian, we believe open and discussions around faith benefit all who take part in them and help to build up our vibrant culture.
In our embrace of this mission and aim, our Year 12 students have spent time during their Christian Education classes this term exploring questions around faith, from, ‘Is Pascal’s Wager useful?’ to, ‘How do we understand the Holy Trinity?’ The conversations that these queries prompted were overseen by our Chaplain, Mr Peter Chase, and Christian Education teacher Mr Asphar in two diferent electives: Chaplain Chats and Deep Dive.
The first of these electives gave the floor to our students, giving them the chance to drive the conversation around contemporary issues, from the theory of evolution to issues of morality. These discussions were always respectful and mature with our Chaplain offering a biblical perspective on the topics that students brought to the session.
Deep Dive brought students closer to the source of Christian faith, with students looking at the scriptural foundations for a range of beliefs. Lead by Mr Asphar, this class investigated a whole range of topics, including the belief of ‘Eternal Security’, the Trinity, and the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
As our Year 12s ready themselves for their next steps after, we pray that the positive experience of classes such as these will help them now and into the future.
