Our students have had the opportunity to train and prepare for two difficult triathlons this Term, with our biannual Rottnest Island Bathurst Lighthouse Triathlon in Week 3 and the School Sports WA Triathlon in Week 4.
Following three Terms of training, the first of these races offered our Year 10 Physical Fitness students a 700 metre swim, 20 kilometre bicycle ride and five kilometre run. Out of the 19 students to compete, Lauren K and Lara L made it first and second out of the female athletes while Hamish M and Louis T finished first and second of the males.
The SSWA race in Week 4 was divided into two sessions, with individuals competing in the morning and teams racing in the heat of early afternoon. The individual racers set a competitive tone in the morning, with Nicholas A working hard on his own to come eighth in his division.
This success was followed by an energetic team atmosphere later in the day, where Hamish and Louis backed up their Rottnest efforts in the SSWA competition as part of a teaming with James B. Here, they earnt a very impressive third place in the team competition while Austin F, Seth M, and Harren A also made the top ten with seventh.
The hard work and dedication of our athletes was evident in this interschool contest and they represented their school with pride. The spirit of camaraderie was also palpable throughout the day and made the event a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Whether they competed amongst their peers or against students from other schools, or even both, we’re very proud of each of our athletes and look forward to next year’s triathlon, where we hope to see more outstanding performances.
