If you’re one of the few members of our community who haven’t met Deb Scorer, you will have heard her voice at the very least.
“Yes,” she says when we ask her about her greatest achievements at the College, “it is my recorded voice that you hear when you telephone the school!”
First impressions are essential to building a strong and welcoming culture and Deb Scorer has been a significant part of that. Since beginning this role in earnest for Somerville Baptist College some 21 years ago, she has seen many families find a home at our College and has witnessed our transformation into a leading Christian College.
Indeed, having seen first-hand the excellent education Kennedy students receive, Deb made sure to enrol her children in the College. “It was comforting,” explains Deb, “to know my children were in a safe and caring environment. Although I would not rescue them by writing notes!” Deb has also seen her son, Mr Daniel Scorer, return to Kennedy as a teacher and she will be joining her husband, long-time Kennedy Bus driver David Scorer, as a recent retiree from the College.
Deb and her family have both contributed to and benefited from our College’s sense of community and it’s the friendships at Kennedy that Deb will miss most, especially with her Administration colleagues. It’s the memories shared with this fun yet professional group of people that shine through in her answers to our questions, especially in contrast to Deb’s roles before coming to the College in what she describes as “the perfect career change.”
While Deb will miss being involved in the Kennedy community everyday and being the person “at the bow of a ship” for some 21 years, she is also looking forward to retirement. What does that involve, we ask her? “Spending quality and unhurried time with my husband.”
Thank you Deb Scorer for your service to the College, for greeting and guiding our families and for putting a smile on the face of those you have worked with.
