Easter as a Community

Easter is a highlight in anyone’s year. It’s an opportunity for chocolate, for a long weekend to spend time away or with family, and often for students it marks the beginning of school holidays.

Yet Easter is much more than this for Kennedy Baptist College community. In the lead up to the Easter weekend during the last week of Term 1, it was extraordinary to have two services that brought our community together and gave space for us to reflect on the meaning of Easter.

Those who attended were able to witness the talents of our students as they lead worship and gave a showing of their skills in a drama piece. It was great to have our community come out in support of these students, and to also have on-stage and back-stage support from Life Chapel. Our links to local churches are growing as we further engage with the community aspect of our Christian mission. One of these connections are with Riverview Church, and we were blessed to have their Senior Minister, Dr Steve McCready speak during our services on the impact of sin before Jesus’ death and resurrection.

As we begin Term 2, we will continue to provide both opportunities for community and the chance to investigate faith and belief. One way that our Chaplain, Peter Chase, has been engaging in this space is through our weekly Connect gatherings during lunch each Thursday. All students are welcome to come along for lunch and some games.

Once again, thank you for the respect shown by our students and families when we celebrated this important time together. We know that there are a wide range of beliefs in Kennedy’s broad community, and the ability for the individuals in our community to respect the beliefs of another is a great indicator of the College’s strength. To help us better understand our vibrant and inclusive community, we are launching a survey on the beliefs and perceptions of those that are a part of Kennedy. With your input, we hope that we can improve our community initiatives and strengthen how we engage with those who study, work, and a support the College. Make sure to look out for this survey in the coming weeks.
