Through this partnership, basketball player Isaiah Lewis visited Kennedy during our Year 10 Pastoral Care Time, engaging with our Year 10 boys and sharing how perseverance, discipline and teamwork shape both athletes and individuals of integrity on and off the court.
Focusing on Identity, Isaiah shared a heartfelt personal story about how his sense of self was challenged after his dream of playing basketball in the NBA was put on hold. He honestly discussed how tying identity to success, career, or status isn’t wrong but can become problematic if those things are valued above what truly matters.
He posed a compelling question to students: “Are we going to accept the world’s values and let our identity be based on them, or believe what God says, where our identity in Him is enduring?” He urged students to consider where they find their worth and what they want associated with their name, emphasising that their value isn’t determined by achievements or circumstances but by something much greater. As he expressed, “When we put our identity in things that can be taken away from us, there’s things that are taken away, and then what do we have?”
Using Scripture, he referenced Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever,” illustrating that while life changes, God’s truth and the identity in Him are constant and unwavering.
This partnership emphasises building strong relationships, enhancing community and offering students meaningful interactions with positive role models.
We’re also proud to have several Kennedy alumni within the team, and we look forward to celebrating their journeys and inspiring students to pursue excellence with purpose, exemplifying our College values of faith, integrity, boldness, growth and service through action.
