All areas of our Arts Learning Area are off to a fantastic start. Students are embracing tasks, projects, and challenges presented to them and we are excited to share snippets from each department and what we are excited to share some snippets.
“Art will remain the most astonishing activity of mankind born out of struggle between wisdom and madness, between dreams and reality in our mind.“ – Magdalena Abakanowicz (1930-2017 sculptor and fiber artist).
DANCE
Our Senior School Dance students had the opportunity to go and see West Australian Ballet’s Alice in Wonderland. Students were delighted to see the costumes, set, puppetry, and the extreme skill of this prestigious ballet production.
VISUAL ARTS
Our Year 11 and 12 Art students, in both General and ATAR courses, have enjoyed two extended tutoring sessions this term. These sessions allowed students to have more creative time to complete their Semester One artwork. Their hard work and focus were sustained with a scrumptious pizza and the relaxed atmosphere encouraged students to work alongside each other giving advice and positive feedback about their individual artworks. It was a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
MUSIC
Music is thriving here at Kennedy; all our Music Ensembles have commenced, and we have had a great deal of interest from students ranging from Years 7 to 12. Our Year 7 students were part of a Music promotion session in Extended Form in Week 3 this term and we are excited to see how many students have already shown interest in both starting lessons or in joining our Ensemble program.
Our Year 11 and 12 General Music students are currently working on arrangements for small instrumental ensembles, some of which may be performed by our school ensembles in the near future. The Year 11 and 12 ATAR students are also working hard in their preparations for their written Music and solo performance examinations in weeks 6 and 7 of this term. As a solo performer, they need to demonstrate a range of different styles and techniques on their instrument, with the guidance and support of their instrumental music teacher.
The Elective music students from Years 8 to 10 are currently completing a range of tasks, including practical band work, aural skills, developing composition skills, as well as learning skills in reading and writing music.
Finally, we were thrilled to obtain the performance rights for ‘Beauty and the Beast’ for March 2023. This is an incredible show with many opportunities for different students to take minor as well as major lead roles and many other opportunities available for our students and staff. A production like this truly brings our community together and we are excited to share updates with you in the coming months.
As you can see, we have a thriving Arts Learning Area here a Kennedy Baptist College and it is a pleasure to see students embracing challenges and recognising the opportunities they have.
