As a member of Christian Schools Australia, it was our privilege to host a number of Perth schools as one of two locations chosen for the CSA State Conference. With over 1200 people attending our Campus on Monday 15 July, Kennedy put on a great display of our College’s Auditorium complex with our Executive Leadership Team making sure that the day ran smoothly.
Following a formal welcome by Principal Mark Ashby, worship together was led by an all-Kennedy team. This set the mood for the conference, confirming it as a time grounded in the love of Jesus and the faithfulness of God.
With this in mind, we welcomed a great array of speakers on stage and through video link to guide us in a broad discussion of the question, “Who Are We Becoming?”.
Contextualised within pedagogical practice, we discovered with Mark Ryan, the CSA’s South Australian Executive Officer, how stories, habits, and relationships shape our identity and our impact on the lives of those around us. Rev. Dr. Melinda Cousins reinforced the most important of these stories by exploring the Bible as one overarching narrative, and we welcomed back Dr. Steve Mcready to help us understand that ‘becoming’ might not be a linear journey, pointing to the example of Zacchaeus as someone who turned around, who transformed.
Thank you to our community for allowing our staff to spend the day worshipping and learning together, and to the CSA for delivering an impactful message through a great array of speakers. We know that the lessons from this Professional Development day will be carried by our staff and teachers into the classrooms at Kennedy as we strive each day for educational excellence in a Christian College. By developing our staff to be the best they can be, we enable our students to reach for new heights.
