Kennedy Pedal Prix Racing Team debuts at their first interstate event

Pedal Prix racing is a fast-growing extracurricular activity offered by Kennedy Baptist College to its students.  Pedal Prix Racing started at Kennedy in 2021 with one borrowed trike and eight students.  We have since established the Kennedy Racing Team, which owns five trikes and comprises a team of 24-32 students, depending on the year.  This year was our most successful year yet, earning us an invitation from Hale School to join them at the 24-hour Australian International Pedal Prix in Murray Bridge, South Australia, which took place from September 19 to 21.

155 teams from all over Australia converged on the town of Murray Bridge for this annual race, which is described as the Bathurst of Pedal Prix racing in Australia. Teams consist of primary school students, high school students, past students and teachers, parents, and even professional athletes. The Gold Medalist from the Road Race at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Steel Von Hoff, also competed in the GTrikes team, which eventually went on to win overall.

Our Hale/Kennedy Team in the S3 category included four students from each school in Years 10, 11, and 12. Kennedy students Alex Moore, Arya Harish, Brent Layman, and Joshua Plummer raced continuously for 24 hours from 12pm Saturday to 12pm Sunday alongside other teams. This gave our students the opportunity to compete with peers their age and past Commonwealth Gold Medalists. The team quickly built strong teamwork, with boys from both schools working together to prepare and maintain the trikes before and during the race. Three teachers from Hale and one from Kennedy shared team management duties, supported by several parents from both schools.

This was an incredible experience for everyone involved—students, teachers, and parents. There is now plenty of talk and discussion about the idea of taking a team from our Kennedy Racing Team to race at Murray Bridge, hopefully within the next two years. Continued support for our team is greatly appreciated.

Community sponsorship of our team is always valued, so if you’re interested in sponsoring us, please contact Mr Gunter, the Team Manager.
