Music Night Lights

The annual Kennedy Baptist College Music Night was a great opportunity to shine the light on the wide variety of musical talent at Kennedy. Whether our students were hitting the high notes on their vocals, or plucking at a bass guitar or guzheng, they continuously impressed the strong audience of parents and guardians, families and friends.

The night started with Stevie Wonder’s Sir Duke, performed by the Year 11 Band, who’s year group stood up on stage throughout the night to speak on different parts of the Kennedy Music program. Many students attested to how the drive of teachers and tutors at the College has led them to a deeper love of all things musical – even if this love is supplemented with more theory in their senior school years! Other transitions between sets included original music composed by our students and an energetic drum solo that was nearly as loud as the applause that followed.

Students had their own takes on a range of different genres, from the smooth jazz of Michael Buble to the contemporary Australian hits of Tones and I. The Kennedy Orchestra also brought their version of a medley from ‘Annie: The Musical’ as we prepare for our whole school production happening in 2025. The night ended with an all-in rendition of I Won’t Forget You, led by our Year 12 ATAR Band, and joined in by the Kennedy Orchestra, Vocal Ensemble, Music Tutors and even some of the crowd from their seats!

We hope that everyone enjoyed the night as much as we did. Thank you for providing the opportunity for our students to perform in a world-class Auditorium to a great crowd. Thank you to all the students who performed in the Lower Foyer in the lead up to the concert and on the big stage itself. Your commitment to presenting a huge variety of music of such a high standard is a reflection of your high standards to learning and creating. Thanks also to our Head of Performing Arts Mrs Janelle Anthony, Music teacher Mrs Stephanie Manns, and our Music tutors including Ms Fisher (Violin), Mr Sumich (Woodwind), Mr Quartermaine (Drums), Mr Waddell (Trumpet/Guitar/Piano), Mr Keesing (Guitar), Ms Li (Guzheng) and visiting Music teacher Mr Wood.
