On Sunday the 29 August our Kennedy Racing Team consisting of 11 Year 7 students, their families and Mr Gunter headed down to the Bunbury City Kart Club for the final WAHPVA Pedal Prix race of the year. The six-hour race started at 10.00am and saw 42 racing trikes from schools all over Perth and the Southwest, plus corporate organisations competing to complete the most number of laps in the six-hour time frame.
The race was exciting and extremely competitive, with all trikes jostling for track position as they navigated the racetrack, sometimes in excess of 50kmph. Midway through the race we were in second position until a mechanical issue forced our leading trike to the pits for an extended period of time, which unfortunately, we were unable to make up. As with all tight, fast and competitive racing, all trikes came home with battle scars however our students came home with exciting memories and plenty of stories to tell.
Our students were the stars competing against Year 9 students in their category and we cannot wait to see how they progress in years to come. They now have their first year of experience under their belt.
Our parents and family were also amazing, providing food and hydration and working as pit crew, timing keepers and as marshals around the track throughout the day. It was a team effort and a wonderful opportunity to showcase Kennedy and our community working together.
We look forward to next year where we will have both Year 7 and 8s competing along with three more trikes added to our College fleet of racing trikes.
