Starting the Year Right in the Research and Study Centre

The Research and Study Centre (RASC) has been busy supporting students as they begin the school year.

All Year 7s are in the middle of our SMARTS program. This specially designed course aims to prepare students to be successful in high school. We teach them top study strategies in an interactive and engaging manner. They are already writing fantastic Cornell notes and learnt organisation skills, how the brain and memory works, and created study planners. We always emphasise a growth mindset in all that we teach.

We have also delivered a Study Skill Seminar to all Year 11 students and many of their parents. If you missed out on this parent session on top tips to support your child’s study, you can download the presentation and handouts via SEQTA Learn. Year 11s can expect to have further support at the beginning of Term 2, before their exams, with specially designed workshops for them to choose from during an extended form. We also cater for students studying General and VET pathways.

Our Teacher Librarians developed a Study Smart lesson for all Year 8s, that was delivered by their Form Teachers last week. Students were reminded of the best study strategies that they were introduced to in SMARTS and they learnt a new study technique of paper foldables, which can be used instead of flash cards. All new students to Kennedy have received a special induction into study skills and strategies and we are continually seeing students for one-on-one tutoring to help improve certain aspects of their study. Don’t forget that every Wednesday after school, the RASC offers tutoring to any student who seeks help.
