Term 1 offered great opportunities for those who enjoy jumping in the pool with our Interhouse Swimming Carnival in Week 4 followed by the Interschool competition in Week 8.
Kennedy Baptist College achieved some great success in the pool during Term 1 with our students competing for House pride and points during the Interhouse Swimming Carnival during Week 4, and then giving the College a strong showing in Division B of the ACC Interschool Swimming Carnival.
This was not the first time that Kennedy has competed in the second-highest division, but our students still did fantastically well to earn sixth place, cementing our spot in Division B among some incredibly talented squads. This is a great reward for our students who committed to early morning training sessions in the lead up to this event and bought into the team culture developed by the swimming committee and coach Rhys Holmes, a Kennedy Alumni and Ironman Athlete. Thank you to Rhys for your commitment to the pursuit of excellence with our Swim Squad along with the swimming committee.
It was also evident that the competitiveness of our Interhouse Swimming Carnival helped us in our Interschool pursuits. Our Interhouse saw a bold new way of doing things with the aim of enabling the pool athletes of our College to compete at their best against the best. Thank you to our parents for embracing this new way of doing our Interhouse Swimming Carnival. We will measure the success of this year’s carnival and continue to improve our events for our students in the future.
Thank you as well to our House Captains for bringing their energy on the day, including some masterful commentary on the microphone, and for the Year 7 students who are already proudly supporting their Houses.
There was plenty of reason for these students to cheer with multiple records broken, including the Free-style Open Boys record in the final swim. All top three finishers touched the wall within a second of each other with winner Daniel taking the cake as King of the Pool. Kaitlyn was similarly crowned Queen of the Pool with a fantastic performance throughout the day.
Along with Christian and Kaiyo, our King and Queen of the Pool qualified to compete at the Swimming Age Nationals on the Gold Coast this past holidays. Their efforts to represent their swimming teams on the national stage shows both the talent of our Kennedy students and their willingness to work for and take opportunities to excel.
Yet even their efforts for their houses were not enough to stop Falcon who left with the shield this year. We look forward to the next time our Houses will clash, with our Interhouse Cross Country happening early on in Term 2.
