Kennedy is thriving and our sports teams are doing their best under the current circumstances.
Swimming looked a little different this year, with COVID-related restrictions in place. The Year 7 Trials and House activities were held on a warm sunny day with many enjoying the opportunity to get in the water and cool off. Each stroke was swum in heats across Houses. Our Year 8-12 Swimming Trials were held on Thursday 24 February at the HBF Stadium. Students were nominated to swim and times were recorded for eligibility to represent the College.
It was decided that the King and Queen of the pool would be crowned at the end of a 50m freestyle dash by our top 8 swimmers. Congratulations to the 2022 Queen – Kaitlyn James and King Andrew Wallace for their strong performance in the tough race at the end of the day. We missed the supportive House atmosphere of previous years and look forward to a return to our annual Interhouse Swimming Carnival in the future.
Our swimmers are now participating in the ACC Age Swim Championships which is a replacement format for the traditional Interschool Carnival.
Specialist Cricket Program
The cricket season is now drawing to a close. It has been great to see matches played when so many other excursions have been modified or cancelled. Specialist Basketball Program
While training for our Specialist Basketball Program has been full steam ahead, the season has made a slow start with the ACC cancelling all of its interschool sport for Term 1 including one-day carnivals, SAS, and SAS Junior weekly games.
We have been fortunate, however, that the SSWA has continued its senior basketball competitions despite the reduced number of schools participating. Our senior boys and girls teams have completed at least one game each with the following results so far.
- SSWA Senior Boys vs Willetton #2: Lost 54-56
- SSWA Senior Girls vs All Saints College: Won 39-37
- SSWA Senior Boys vs All Saints College: TBC
We are looking forward to a few more games this term and hopefully, the season will continue to pick up as we head into Term 2.
